Hooks

Kia ora everyone,

Last week we have been working on description hooks such as direct speech, rhetorical questions, onomatopoeia and staccato sentences. First we had to chose three pictures then in a group we each wrote a couple of sentences but the first sentence had to start with a hook. The people in my group were Magic, Willow, Mosese and I.

"Wow!!!" We all shouted as the motorbike did a back flip then it did a front flip!
Fire busted out the back of the motorcycle. OMG! They stood up on the motorcycle IN MID AIR!!!
The crowd roared with lion’s expression getting louder and louder. With a bang and a crunch they finished their act.

Too fast. I have lost control! The cars hit with great force shattering all the windows.
My heart felt like it would burst out of my chest, I was so scared.
One car came from one side, another from the other.
It was like an explosion of one thousand sounds.
They hit from all angles like light bouncing off a mirror.

Have you ever had a horse ride? The horses trotted up the hill tilting me side to side.
The wind blew the grass like little waves in the sea on a cool spring day as the mountain stood proudly whispering to the wind.
It was relaxing whenever the horse walked
The forest sang like an angel and made us feel safe.

Black Olive

Welcome everyoneπŸ˜ŽπŸ˜ŒπŸ˜ŠπŸ˜‹

The last few weeks we have been learning about similes, personification and metaphors. Then we had to write a recount about a personal event and include as many of these gems as we could. Read though my story and try to find them. Here it is..

                                                       Black Olive

Argh” mumbled the car when Dad tried turning the key. It was a Saturday  night and my Mum, Dad, Brother and I were going to the Black Olive for dinner. The gravel crunched under the car’s weight as it slowly walked down the driveway. When we arrived we saw our Nanna and Grandpa jump out of their little silver car and into the cold, dark night. It was as cold as Antarctica outside. We approached the gleaming restaurant that stood proudly in the cold night air. “It’s so warm in here” exclaimed my brother removing his jacket once we had entered the building.

Crash! Bang! Crunch. Was the sound we heard when we walked past the kitchen and to our  table. When we were seated we ordered squid and some pizza bread to share. It arrived and it looked pretty as a autumn tree doing the tango! We each reached for a fraction of the pizza bread and some squid. The pizza bread tasted like summer and spring mixed together along with a hint of autumn. The squid was covered in golden breadcrumbs and was very crunchy! Once we had finished we  ordered our main. I chose blue cheese pasta. It was delicious! It was full of pasta, chicken and a creamy sauce. The fork dug into the pasta like a spade.  The pasta was as creamy as chocolate. The pasta waltzed across the plate as I swirled it around my fork. When I went to lift it to my mouth you could hear their painful cries.

“Thank you for coming hope to see you soon” said the Waitress. We waved goodbye to our Nanna and Grandpa and flowed away down the stairs and into the car.

It was extremely delicious and I can’t wait to come back next time!

Maori Creatures

Kia Ora everyone,

Today we did a screencastify on Maori Creatures. First we chose an animal then we had to find the Maori name. My favourite animal was the stingray- Whai. Once we had finished our chart we then began to practise our pronunciation and then film a screencastify. Here it is.

Venn Diagram

Hey Everyone

This week we have been working on a Venn diagram. A Venn diagram is when you use two of the same shape and overlap them just a little. On the outside you write the differences and in the middle you write the same about the two things your studying eg: countries, animals or books etc. I made my Venn diagram about two New Zealand Birds, the Chatham Island Black Robin  and  the Stitch bird. I hope you enjoy mine.😁
