My Argument for the speech competition.

Kia ora: Here are my argument cards for the speech competition. Writing arguments is hard but I like the way mine ended up.

Police dogs help police officers do a difficult job more easily.	Have you ever seen police dogs in action? I believe that policemen would have a much more difficult job if they didn’t  have dogs.
Firstly, a police dog can run much faster than a human and  catch bad people.  Secondly, they can sniff out people who are lost or in trouble. Thirdly, they are very loyal friends and will help protect the police officer that they work with.	Scientific research shows that a dog can run 45 miles per hour but a human can only run 28 miles per hour, so a police dog can easy catch bad people. They take fences in their stride and scramble over things and through small spaces while a policeman would have to find another way around.
Scientific experiments have proven how well dogs can smell. Using their very clever noses, dogs are able to follow a scent trail and find people who have been lost or trapped in places where no human could ever find them. They can find missing people even when they are buried in snow or collapsed buildings. Imagine what that would feel like if someone you loved was missing. Imagine how happy and relieved it would make the police who were searching for them. Dogs are way better than a GPS and they don’t need batteries, just food.	There are many recorded instances where police dogs have saved a police officer from harm by biting and chasing away criminals who were trying to attack the officer. Once a policeman was knocked to the ground by two bad guys and they were trying to kick him to death but his dog jumped out of the police van, attacked the bad guys and they ran away. Also, criminals are less likely to threaten a police officer if he/she has a dog with them. Most people think twice when they stare into the jaws of an angry dog. You would  have to be silly not to, wouldn’t you?
So, I’m sure you will truly agree with me that police dogs are invaluable to policemen. They track down people who are missing, they chase and  catch bad guys, and they defend their policeman partner. Everyone should say that dogs are a policeman’s best friend. It’s true that happy, hardworking hounds are helpful to humans.
